Chinese Music and Dance Learning Program
Chinese Music and Dance Learning Program (CMDLP) was founded by Kentucky Arts Council roster artist and professional musician Hong Shao and Chinese traditional and folk dancer Shuling Xiong in 2004. The CMDLP offers Chinese performing arts concerts featuring the musical instrument Pipa, Chinese music and songs, traditional and folk dances, a runway of Chinese costumes, Chinese martial arts forms Tai Ji fan and sword, and Hip Hop dances.

The program brings the richness of Chinese performing arts to audiences across Kentucky. It also blends in elements of western style for a taste of “west meets east.” Each year, the program offers performances, workshops, classes and demonstrations for the Kentucky community at cultural events and public school cultural exchange programs. CMDLP also hosts Chinese New Year Celebration concerts with other organizations including the Lexington Public Library, the Lexington Explorium, the Lexington Living Arts and Science Center, the Lexington Chinese School and the Kentucky Chinese American Association. The program staged a concert in January 2009 at the Singletary Center for the Arts at the University of Kentucky with a full-house of 1,500 in the audience. CMDLP productions are highly regarded by audiences, because they are always professional, interesting, instructive and entertaining.
