Penélope Quesada


Penélope Quesada is a Peruvian flutist who specializes in contemporary, Latin American and classical music. She has played flute for nearly twenty years, performing in recitals to audiences in her home city of Lima, Perú and in several cities in the United States, and has played with different orchestras including the Trujillo Symphonic Orchestra and the Lima Philharmonic Orchestra. Penélope performs solo or as part of Aire Andino from Louisville, (a group that performs Latin American music with typical and authentic instruments such as charango, quena, zampoña and guitar) and the Americas Trio (flute, saxophone and piano, specializing in contemporary music from the Americas).

As a classical performer, her repertoire covers an assortment of styles ranging from the baroque to the contemporary, including new music from Latin American composers. She has performed in the New Music Festivals sponsored by the School of Music at University of Louisville and the renowned Festival Internacional de Música Clásica Contemporánea (International Contemporary Classical Music Festival) organized by the Consulate of Spain in Lima, Peru. Her performance included the work of Peruvian and Spanish composers whose music premiered at the festival. At the University of Louisville she has played with the Wind Ensemble, the New Music Ensemble and the Symphonic Orchestra.

Penélope studied Music Performance and Music Education at the Lima Conservatory of Music. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the University of Louisville.
